Three-Layer Glazing — What It Means and Why It Matters

Standard ceramic sanitaryware uses a single glaze layer applied before firing. The Aachen 3809 uses a three-layer glaze system, where three successive glaze coats are applied and fired, building up a denser, more uniform surface with fewer micropores and surface imperfections.

The practical differences are measurable:

• Surface smoothness: Multi-layer glazing produces a lower surface roughness value (Ra), which directly reduces the adhesion strength of limescale deposits, soap scum, and biofilm — the surfaces on which bacteria proliferate
• Glaze durability: Additional glaze layers increase total glaze thickness, reducing the risk of surface crazing (fine surface cracks) from thermal cycling over the toilet's service life
• Colour stability: A deeper glaze body retains the bright white finish longer — single-glaze surfaces can yellow over time as the thinner glaze layer wears

All of our toilets are Rimless Toilets, which means they don’t need the old fashioned toilet pan rim to flush and instead use high powered water jets to hygienically and safely flush. Wall Hung Toilet
