Wudu: Definition and the Role of a Dedicated Wudu Basin

Wudu (Arabic: وُضوء, also transliterated as wudhu or wuzu) is the Islamic ritual of purification performed before salah (the five daily prayers), before touching the Quran, and before certain other acts of worship. It is obligatory (fard) for practising Muslims and is prescribed in the Quran (Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:6).

The steps of wudu include:

Why foot washing makes a dedicated wudu station necessary

Steps 1–7 can be performed at a standard bathroom basin with reasonable comfort. Step 8 — washing both feet to the ankles three times — cannot. At a standard basin (800–850mm height), lifting a foot to ankle height requires significant balance, flexibility, and physical effort. For elderly users, those with mobility limitations, and anyone performing wudu five times daily, this becomes a genuine physical challenge.

What Plumbing Does the Wudu Basin Need?

The Durovin Wudu Basin has two independent taps, each requiring separate hot and cold supply connections. This means the supply requirements are more complex than a standard single-basin installation:

Water supply:

4 supply connections total: hot and cold to the upper tap; hot and cold to the lower swivel tap
Standard 15mm push-fit or compression fittings
If installing in a room without existing hot water supply (e.g., a converted prayer room), an electric instantaneous water heater (combi boiler branch or inline heater) will be needed
Both taps are included with the unit — no separate tap purchase required

Waste:

Single 45mm waste outlet (overflow included)
Standard bottle trap and P-trap to wall or floor waste
PVC connection pipe included in the purchase

Floor considerations:

As a foot washing basin, water splashing outside the unit is expected during use
Non-slip floor tile or safety vinyl is strongly recommended beneath and around the unit
A floor drain or shower trap within reach of the unit eliminates the need for a floor mat and is considered best practice in mosque and prayer room installations

Professional installation strongly recommended: The dual tap supply requirement and the optional prayer room pipe routing make this a more involved installation than a standard basin. A Gas Safe registered or qualified plumber should assess the hot water supply route before installation.

• 30-day return window; items must be unused, uninstalled, and in original packaging. • After 30 days, items in good condition may be refunded at 85%; 15% platform fee is non-refundable. • Used or installed items are non-refundable; returned non-eligible items may be held for 7 days for collection.

• Return shipping is paid by the buyer: Small/Medium £10 per item; Large £40 per item. • Refusing delivery or being unavailable for a large-item delivery may incur a £40 return fee. • Original delivery fees are non-refundable.

• Report damage or faults within 24 hours of delivery with photos/video. • Refunds/exchanges processed the day we receive the item before 2:00 PM, or next business day after 2:00 PM. • Refunds issued to your original payment method within 24 hours (bank posting times may vary).
